Frequently Asked Questions
Every team’s situation is unique, so most questions people ask us don’t have a one-size-fits-all answer. Here are some questions we can briefly answer now, but we encourage you to contact us so that we can discuss your needs specifically.
What technologies do you work in?
Because we hire specifically for client needs, we work in whatever our clients work in. Right now 70% of teams are .NET (Microsoft Stack) and remainder are a mix of tech (PHP, Ruby on Rails, Oracle, iOS/mobile, Salesforce etc.).
What hours do the developers work?
To accommodate for the time difference our developers work an adjusted schedule. This way, the U.S. client and Indian team can have a few hours of overlap to discuss what they worked on while the other team was resting soundly. Many Indian offices operate six days a week; however, EC Group developers work five, nine-hour days. Work hours can sometimes fluctuate based on release cycles and product launches.
How do you handle your billing?
A contract is a year in length, and clients are billed at a flat rate on a monthly basis. There is also a one-time fee with each added hire to cover the expenses of recruitment and new equipment for their developer.
How do you manage time off?
Like any employee, developers must ask for time off and are entitled to a set amount of PTO based on how long they’ve been with EC Group. The client approves time off requests.
Will there be overages or any other charges other than the monthly invoice?
EC Group developers are paid on a salary basis rather than hourly, so typically there will not be any overages or charges to the monthly invoice. It is only under special circumstances at the request of the client that would warrant charges beyond the monthly invoice rate. Special equipment or software is handled on a case by case basis.
What are the typical rates?

How did your company start out?
In 1999, Tom Sudyk, CEO and founder of EC Group International established e-commerce operations in Chennai, India. The vision for expanding to India served two purposes. One purpose was to provide small and medium sized US companies safe access to the abundant talent India had to offer. The second purpose was to establish a company that would make a difference to the people it touched. EC Group is more than just a business; it is a business with a mission. We believe it is our duty to not only provide professional services but to also be a blessing to our employees, their families, and the great nation of India. Time has proven that these values have created a competitive advantage by attracting and retaining some of the best talent in the industry.

I’m worried about communication. What are the developers’ English skills like?
Our developers are very well educated, and have a high level of English comprehension. Our HR department also tests for English in interviews. Because clients participate in the final interview, clients also have the opportunity to measure English skill.
Do clients ever visit the Indian office?
Yes, and we highly encourage clients to do so. Sitting together and working as a team, eating together, and getting to know one another face-to-face helps build team unity, which allows for a better working relationship. Those who have traveled with us to India notice a positive shift in their team dynamic.
Do developers ever come visit my U.S. office?
Not typically, but under a few special circumstances we have had team leaders come to the U.S. to visit their clients.
What’s your retention rate and how do you calculate it?
95% of our employees have been with us for three years or longer. We are very proud of our retention rate, as Indian IT firms especially have a reputation for being very high in attrition. Ensuring we have a healthy company culture is one of our top priorities.
Do you participate in any kind of corporate social responsibility?
We do, check out our heartbeat page, and our blog for CSR updates.
